1. Who is Planned Parenthood?
The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is the largest abortion provider in the US, performing nearly 330,000 abortions per year. This accounts for 32% of the total 1,058,000 abortions per year in the US, or about 1 in 3, according to the latest data. According to Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director of Medical Services for PPFA, as of 2014 Planned Parenthood performed up to 40% of US abortions.
Abortion accounts for approximately 50% of Planned Parenthood’s health services revenue. In addition, nearly 50% of Planned Parenthood affiliate revenue comes from government subsidies. Planned Parenthood has historically been a supporter and major participant in fetal tissue sales with involvement documented as far back as the 1990s.
2. Who is The Center for Medical Progress?
The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) is a group of citizen journalists dedicated to monitoring and reporting on medical ethics and advances. They are concerned about contemporary bioethical issues that impact human dignity, and they oppose any interventions, procedures, and experiments that exploit the unequal legal status of any class of human beings. CMP envisions a world in which medical practice and biotechnology ally with and serve the goods of human nature and do not destroy, disfigure, or work against them.
3. What is the Human Capital project?
The Human Capital project is a 30-month-long investigative journalism study by The Center for Medical Progress (CMP), documenting how Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted babies. Citizen journalists at CMP spent two and a half years logging thousands of research hours to painstakingly gather hundreds of hours of undercover footage, dozens of eyewitness testimonies, and nearly two hundred pages of primary source documents. This information will continue to be made available to the public at CenterForMedicalProgress.org.
4. Aren’t CMP and you just extremists?
In the wake of CMP’s investigation, Planned Parenthood has tried to distract from the video evidence by writing off their opponents as radicals and branding CMP’s principal David Daleiden an extremist. This attempt to discredit the messenger does nothing to refute the claims being leveled against Planned Parenthood.
What truly matters is whether the message is true—not whether the messenger is opposed to legal abortion or not.
We have two groups before us. One is butchering children and selling their remains for profit. The other is blowing the whistle on this barbaric practice. Who are the real extremists?
5. Does Planned Parenthood really profit from selling baby body parts?
Planned Parenthood claims they have broken no laws and the only compensation they have received for providing tissue from aborted babies is for storage and handling. However, the evidence gathered by the Center for Medical Progress tells a different story.
CMP has obtained an advertisement to Planned Parenthood clinics from StemExpress, LLC, one of the major purchasers of Planned Parenthood’s aborted fetal tissue. This flyer advertises 4 different times the financial benefit that Planned Parenthood clinics can receive from supplying fetal tissue, with the words: “Financially Profitable,” “Financial Profits,” “financial benefit to your clinic,” “fiscal growth of your own clinic.” The advertisement carries an endorsement from Planned Parenthood Medical Director Dr. Dorothy Furgerson. None of this is standard across the mainstream medical field, but it is standard across Planned Parenthood’s insular and unaccountable abortion field.
6. Does Planned Parenthood do partial-birth abortions to harvest baby body parts?
The procedure described in one of the undercover videos to obtain intact fetal organs in these abortion facilities is consistent with either “D&X”(dilation and extraction)—commonly known as partial birth abortion, illegal in the United States since 2003—or “D&E”(dilation and evacuation).
If Planned Parenthood is performing D&X procedures, they are in violation of the 2003 ban upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States in 2007. In a D&X procedure, the living fetus is delivered in breech presentation intact to the level of the head, and the base of the skull is then opened and the intracranial contents suctioned out prior to delivery of the head. In addition to being inhumane, this poses significant risks to the mother. The forced dilation of her cervix leads to a significant increase in her risk for preterm delivery in the future. There is no medical reason for either the mother or baby to perform a D&X.
In a D&E procedure, the living fetus is crushed and dismembered inside its mother’s womb and removed piece by piece.
Regardless, the undercover footage shows PPFA staff members discussing an alteration of the procedure used in order to procure intact fetal organs. Title 42 Chapter 6A of the US Code, which includes laws governing the use of fetal tissue, clearly states “no alteration of the timing, method, or procedures used to terminate the pregnancy [may be] made solely for the purposes of obtaining the tissue.”
The changes to the method of abortion, in order to preserve certain organs intact, clearly violates this federal law.
7. But isn’t it legal to donate tissue?
Tissue donation is legal. However, there are strict laws regarding the donation of fetal tissue. CMP’s video evidence demands an investigation into Planned Parenthood. To profit from fetal body parts and to alter the abortion method used for the purpose of harvesting organs are actions Planned Parenthood seems to be taking which are against federal law.
Furthermore, Planned Parenthood is clearly in violation of moral laws. The science of embryology confirms that human beings begin to exist at fertilization. It is wrong for Planned Parenthood to kill these distinct, living, whole human beings. And it is wrong to profit off of their body parts—regardless of the current legal state. Humans are not for sale.
You may choose to donate your own tissue. But you certainly are not justified in offering tissue from your toddler if doing so requires killing her. Fetal tissue is only donated after the baby has been killed. If we oppose killing and harvesting born children for profit, we must oppose the same action for preborn children. The only difference between the two is age. And age is irrelevant to a person’s value.
8. What is the Resistance?
The Resistance is Christians concerned for life, coming together to fight Planned Parenthood specifically in California to expose their evil deeds of darkness.
We are advancing against the gates of Hell and we trust God to bring us victory after victory as we confront Planned Parenthood. This is the time to act. The impact of the CMP videos and the evil they expose must not be squandered. The Survivors have put all other projects on hold to focus on this fight from now until Election Day 2016.
9. Why focus on California?
The Resistance is focused in California because this is where most of the CMP videos were filmed. California is home to more Planned Parenthoods than any other state. The top three states for PP centers has always been California, Texas and New York. In 2005, PP operated a total of 250 centers in those three states. At the end of 2014, that number was 208. Although that is almost a 20% decrease, the individual state numbers reveal dramatic differences:
- New York went from 79 PP centers to 59
- Texas went from 78 PP centers to 37
- California went from 93 PP centers to 112!
That’s right, California actually increased by 20%. California has always been a PP stronghold. Today, there are more PP centers in California than the combined total of PP centers in 30 other states.
