The Students Fight Back!
Abortion activists take the arrests to court
by Sabrina Tinsay
The students arrested on February 13, 2007 are now filing a case against the North Orange County Community College District.
Last week three students were arrested in Cypress College for demonstrating against abortion. "We need to do everything we can to make sure that both students and guests alike have the right to express their opinions openly and without fear of arrest. Free speach cannot be contained in a zone. It is the right of every person in this country according to the constitution, and we will excercise this even if we get arrested for it" stated Krista Fagan.
Last year, the students filed a case similar to the one this year. "The lawyers for the college district, the law firm of Declues & Burkett, eventually agreed to settle the case against the NOCCCD for a lump sum of money" stated Collete Wilson, attorney at law.
"The campus life tours is going well and there have been no other arrests. We are in our fourth week, and only cypress college gave us trouble" according to Joey Cox, a developmental psychology major from College of the Sequoias; Kortney Blythe, a communications major from Montreat College; and Amanda Lord, a sociology major from Liberty University.
The students said that they are determined to fight back.
