Police Brutality at Chaffey College

Theft. Intimidation. Violence.

A young man with braces on his frail knees, shoved against a wall and thrown to the ground. His personal items rifled through and kept without permission. Later, handcuffed and locked alone in a windowless room – without a light. And throughout this brutal treatment, he was never told why he was being arrested.

Two more young men shoved, choked, handcuffed, and carted off to jail. Also without being informed of their crime.

California police officers engaged in these very acts yesterday at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

As I write, two members of the Campus Life Tour team sit in jail on a $25,527 bond. That’s $25,527 for each person.

Friends of the Survivors, I ask for your prayers. I have worked with the Survivors since the birth of the organization in 1998, and I have never before seen this level of discrimination, hatred, and police brutality.

This is a level of spiritual warfare that tells me our Campus Life Tour is making Satan very nervous.

The three young men who were arrested yesterday at Chaffey College were members of the Campus Life Tour team, peacefully engaging in pro-life outreach on the public college campus.

There are too many details to relay at this time, but I can assure you that our CLT team was acting in a professional and peaceful manner throughout the entire day. In contrast, the police force at Chaffey College treated our CLT members with open hatred and disrespect.

CLT team member Joey Cox wears braces on his knees because he has a genetic disorder that has resulted in patellar (kneecap) disalignment. Joey is a slight but steely young man who doesn’t often let his physical pain get in the way of his ministry on campus. Praise to God, he was released yesterday following the horrifying experience in the police station mentioned above, and a trip to jail. His legs today bear bruises as a result of the brutal action by police.

Unfortunately, James and Jason Conrad were not released along with Joey. The two brothers, veteran pro-lifers and sons of Survivors Director Cheryl Conrad, were arrested simply for their presence on campus and their dogged refusal to allow police officers to intimidate them. Jason and James were handcuffed and taken into the campus police station, subject to physical abuse, and then transported to a local jail where they now sit.

The Survivors are financially unable to post the $51,054 bond for the Conrad brothers. And as of this evening, their arraignment is pending – we do not know when they will be released. As far as we know, they are being charged with felony eavesdropping (trumped up from their use of a video camera in public), offensive language in public, and refusing to leave the campus.

Finally, in what is the ultimate example of the Survivors’ effectiveness and the reason for this extreme spiritual warfare, we believe a young woman chose life for her baby yesterday.

In the midst of the turmoil and just as Joey was being slammed into a wall at the police station, a young woman was crying over photos of preborn children. She was 5 months pregnant, and scheduled for an abortion the very next morning. This young lady, Britney, spent many minutes talking with Kortney, our CLT Director. Before she left, Britney gave Kortney her phone number and the name of the clinic where she was scheduled to have the abortion.

Even after the emotional, difficult day at Chaffey, Kortney and the remaining members of the team were outside that clinic in Los Angeles this morning. They were prepared to talk to Britney in case she came to the clinic for her abortion. Britney never showed up, and Kortney received a text message from Britney saying she is keeping her baby.

Please keep Britney in her prayers as Kortney continues to reach out to her. Britney’s reason for the abortion was to keep her track scholarship, and Kortney is not certain that Britney will keep the baby without much encouragement.

We are preparing a press release at this time, and will also be posting video on YouTube shortly. We will post that information as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, please keep James, Jason, Joey, and the entire CLT in your prayers. Along with Britney and her baby, a baby who lives because of our CLT team’s unwillingness to bow under extreme pressure.

The Conrad brother’s are where they belong. Danielle should be there with them for fabricating the circumstances surrounding the CLT’s visit to the Chaffey Campus. The CLT is a cult full of hypocrites and liars. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves for even thinking for one minute that what you’re doing is a Christian Outreach. That’s the last thing it is. You’re not making Satan nervous, you’re working for him and he’s proud of you for causing problems on campuses all over the US. He’s thankful for your loyalty and support and you create more conflict between believers and non believers.

How does loving our neighbors enough to educate and share the truth with them make us hypocrites, liars, or cultists?

Read Matt. 28:18-20. What are YOU doing to “teach all the world all things that Jesus commanded”?

The police were the ones who messed with us; we did all we could to avoid conflict short of letting them trample on our rights and on YOUR rights. We complied with all of the requests of the administration. The police were simply on a power trip. Why else would they only arrest 3 out of the 8 of us if we were ALL breaking the law? The fact that we were around to make this blog either shows that we were the ones injustice was done to, or that the police were incompent. Watch the video and decide for yourself.

Going out there to love your neighbor does not make one a hypocrite. We can always improve. Do you have any suggestions?

What do you do to live out the Christian life so you work for God, and not for Satan? How do you handle the conflicts you have with nonbelievers in your life?

I am living in Scotland and undertand completely the battle between abortion and pro-lifers. I have activly stood for life since I understood what abortion does. Abortion is the spirit of this age and Satan is happy for us to sacrifice our children to this spirit. But testing the spirits (as Scripture commands) shows us that what is done to the unborn is wrong. It is murder.

Our lives are our example – BUT if anyone asks us for the reason of our faith – we must be 1. READY. 2. ABLE. and 3. WILLING to give an account of ourselves.
Standing for what you believe in takes courage. True courage of the soul is in very short supply these day.

May the Father in Heaven guide each soul to see their own sin, before pointing out the sin of another.

My point exactly! I merely used katie’s words against her (I guess you don’t get it?), to show her what her argument looked like! Furthuremore, Don’t read John 8:45ff. Jesus told the unbelievers that there father was the devil, and it was “his” will that they were doing! Also first Tim 2:24,25!

I’m a senior Consultant (Resident?) Psychiatrist in Ireland and I work with Youth Defence/Mother & Child Campaign. I’ve been where you’re at, handcuffs and all. Believe me when I say that we send you our prayers and best wishes in your apostolate for the Unborn. We do the same work here and at present have two US Pro-Life visitors doing a Colege tour with our College group, ULtrasound. I got my encouragement as a young street activist from Operation Rescue, many of whose members still come here regularly to cause the right kind of mayhem. Maybe you could come over some time and we could all do some “Mayhem for Life”. God Bless you all. As the late Pope John Paul 2 told us as a group in 1995, “You are doing the most important work, saving the babies and their mothers”. We’re with you all the way. Let me get this straight… you guys were protesting peacefully and the police just, for no reason and with no provocation, arrested you. Now I watched the video, and as it starts from the arrest and not the moments before, do you expect us to just take your word that you did nothing wrong? Further, though there are shouts of assault there is no actual misconduct by the police on the tape.
