We knocked, but Speaker Boehner wouldn't open the door
May 12, 2015 - Last Thursday we joined a coalition of pro-life groups to call upon Speaker Boehner to keep his promise to bring H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, out of committee to a vote. This would ban abortions after 20 weeks, the time when it has been shown that they feel pain.
Survivors has been a part of this coalition for months now, knocking for justice like the Persistent Widow of Luke 18. We will not let this legislation or these babies fall through the cracks. If you remember, this bill was originally scheduled for a vote in January, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, but it was torpedoed at the last minute.
This is a good bill to get behind, not because it is perfect, but because it shows the Democratic party's platform for what it is: abortion on demand, any reason or no reason, to the day of birth! It will also protect thousands of children right now from being callously and heartlessly killed!
This time we held a press conference. I said, "In my work as an pro-life apologist, I have to routinely convince people that these abortions are legal in the U.S. This practice is so unthinkable that they find it hard to believe." We brought 20 week fetal models (as big as your hand) and 20 week victim photography to show the barbarity of this practice.
We knocked. I said, "This baby could not knock for justice, so I will knock for her." But Speaker Boehner, even though he and his aides knew we were coming, would not open the door.
This is why direct activism is so important. They can ignore email after email. But when someone is knocking at your door, everyone knows what the message is!
And we know that the message got through. The next day, we heard the announcement that the bill would be brought to vote, and that vote is happening tomorrow!
And yet, even if this bill is passed, the children will not have attained justice, because it will still be legal to kill them before 20 weeks or if their father was a rapist. It is wrong to kill defenseless people, even if they cannot feel it and even if their father was a rapist.
So we will continue to knock. Will you help us? Your donation of $25, $50 or even $100 will do just that. We will not stop knocking until all children are protected!
You can also knock for the children! Please take a moment RIGHT NOW to CALL your member of the U.S. House of Representatives. The vote is happeningtomorrow!
If you don't know who your representative is, you can go to this website to find out:http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/
As you'll see when you do, all you'll need to do is type in your zip code and you'll be informed who your lawmaker is.
Once you know, call the main switchboard on Capitol Hill: 202 - 224 - 3121. Ask the operator to connect you with your Representative's office. Tell the person who answers: "I'm calling to urge Congressman/woman xxNAMExx to vote FOR H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act."
Join us in knocking for the children, TODAY!
